Welcome to Tue Tjur's Download Page

From this page, free software for personal computers under Windows can be downloaded. This includes the statistics package ISUW, and a nice little program called WinT, which is the mixture that you always wanted of an editor, a calculator and a set of statistical tables.

Download ISUW  - Complete statistical package for Windows computers.

Click above to download the “self-unpacking” file ISUWINST.EXE. Place it in a new directory (we suggest C:\ISUW, to keep file names short), and unpack it by executing it (for example by clicking from Windows Explore). Four files, ISUW.EXE, ISUWHELP.TXT, BORLNDMM.DLL and DEMOS.EXE, taking up a little more than 1 MB, are created. After this you may delete ISUWINST.EXE. Now, ISUW.EXE can be started up (by Run ..., or by double clicking from Windows Explore, or (a lot better) by making a shortcut to it from the desktop or somewhere else).

Read ISUWHELP.TXT  - the complete ISUW “online help file’’.

Download WinT - Desk Calculator with Statistical Tables.

This is a simple Windows program that combines a standard editor with a formula interpreter (parser) and a small library of numerical procedures with “standard statistical table” functions. With WinT you can do exactly the same as you can with a programmable pocket calculator and a standard set of statistical tables. And not much more, actually. But if  you spend the few minutes it takes to learn it, you will find it much more convenient, in particular if you have a Windows computer running all the time anyway. And also if you prefer exact rather than approximate P-values. Place the file WINT.EXE (0.43 MB) somewhere on your harddisk and make it a Windows application in the standard manner. When you specify the command line (the “target property” of the shortcut that activates WinT), give it the form

...\wint.exe <directoryname>

where the directory specified is the place where you intend to keep your "WinT Worksheets", if any. It is also possible to configure the system in such a way that WinT worksheets (ordinary text files with extension .WTW) are automatically opened by WinT (start Windows Explore and select Tools - Folder Options – File Types).

Download WXX.EXE – Windows file management program. Mouse free, quick, efficient, and not for childrens use.

     WXX window

Call the program on the form <directory name>\WXX from a DOS or equivalent window, by Start-Run... or from a shortcut on the desktop or elsewhere. When the program has started, press F1 for help.

WARNING. If children or less well-behaved adults have access to your computer, do NOT put a shortcut to this program on the desktop or other similarly visible place. The program is intended for users who think about the consequences before they press a key. No warnings are given.

Educational material (in Danish).

Here comes some more oldfashioned stuff for DOS computers (not of much interest any more, but anyway...)

ISU - Interactive StatUnit

This is an interactive statistical package for DOS computers (386 or higher), based on StatUnit and its satelites, see below. However, to use it you need not know anything about Pascal programming, nor to have Turbo/Borland Pascal on your computer. No hard-copy manual is required, ISU is documented 'on-line'.

ISU is basically a DOS program, but it functions OK under Windows 95 and 98, and (now, it seems) also under Windows 2000 NT. However, for Windows 98 and later we recommend ISUW, see above.

For more detailed information about ISU click here

Installation.

If you install ISU for the first time, download the following four files to a new, empty directory. We suggest C:\ISU.

Download ISUPACK.BIN - a compressed file containing the ISU system

Download ISUINST.EXE - program for unpacking and installing ISU

Download RTM.EXE - program for memory management.

Download DPMI16BI.OVL - Overlay for RTM.EXE.

Now use (from the DOS prompt, on that directory) the command

ISUINST

To update an earlier version of ISU, download the two files ISUPACK.BIN and ISUINST.EXE to your ISU root directory. There is no need to delete present system files, nor to remove their write protection. Then use (from the DOS prompt, on that directory) the command ISUINST to start the installation program.

Read detailed installation instructions (installation on networks etc.)

T.EXE - Statistical Tables for Personal Computer users. This is a handy alternative to the classical set of statistical tables. Based on the Turbo Pascal unit DISTR.PAS, following StatUnit. Place it as it is on a directory in the DOS path, to be able to call the statistical tables from anywhere by the command T. Also included in the ISU package. For Windows computers we recommend WinT, see above.

OPTDSGN.EXE. This is a program for construction of optimal or nearly optimal block designs. Place it as it is on a suitable directory. Documented by help-sheets in the program.

CALC.EXE. Pocket calculator. Also included in the ISU package. For Windows computers we recommend WinT, see above.

FXX.EXE. File management program for DOS. Also included in the ISU package. For Windows computers we recommend WXX, see above.

The following files are compressed "self-unpacking" files. When such a file, say XXX.EXE, has been downloaded, place it on a (new, if you are downloading this for the first time) directory on your harddisk, and unpack it there by the command

XXX -o

(i.e. the first name of the file itself) from the DOS prompt. The option -o implies that unpacked files will overwrite earlier versions of the same files without asking. When the unpacking is done, the original file XXX.EXE can be deleted.

StatUnit.

This is a Turbo Pascal unit (that is a procedure library, roughly) for statistical computing. With this unit, Turbo or Borland Pascal can perform most of the tasks that are usually performed by standard statistical packages. At the same time, you maintain all the advantages of a down-to-the-ground programming language. If you are a pascal programmer, you will find it easy to write your own additional units for special purposes. To install it, unpack the file on a new directory (e.g. C:\BP\SU) and follow the instructions given in the ASCII file INSTALL.TXT. See The StatUnit Manual  (PDF-file, 74 pages). Only the core of StatUnit is documented here, satelite units are documented by comments in their interface sections.

StatUnit Examples.

A sample of Turbo/Borland Pascal programs, using StatUnit and its satelite units. Unpack the file SUEX.EXE on a separate directory(e.g.C:\BP\SU\SUEX).

StatPlot Examples.

A sample of Turbo/Borland Pascal programs, using StatPlot. StatPlot is a unit following StatUnit, but also a stand-alone graphics utility for statistical data analysis. Documentation is found in the form of comments in the interface section of STATPLOT.PAS. An introduction is given in the form of comments in the program TUTOR.PAS, which is one of the sample programs you will get by clicking here. Unpack the file SPEX.EXE on a separate directory (e.g. C:\BP\SU\SPEX).
